Fly Fishing for Big Pike
Sorry, description is temporarily unavailable.
Most of our lakes and rivers contain large pike, and they offer superb sport to the fly fisherman. Alan Hanna has put many years of experimentation into a brand new approach which has revolutionised the whole business of fly fishing for pike. You will be shown how to tie a new, six-inch fly that will fool the largest fish on the dourest of days, and how to cast it thirty yards. How to temp big pike throughout the year is discussed in detail, as well as how to take them on the surface or in deep water. A 20lb pike on a fly rod is now a realistic possibility.

Review Text
The text of this book is very interesting and informative, full of tips and techniques to catch the bigger specimens. It is let down by dull and uninteresting black and white photography. Colour photos are not that expensive to print anymore, so why don't they do another edition with colour photos so you can see the colour and pattern of the flies the author is recommending. I would buy this. This flyfishing book is a natural progression if you have already been fishing for pike with lures and deadbaits but the photos are rubbish, very uninspiring.
Not worth the money. An A5 size book of about 100 pages with virtually no illustrations and the few they had were in black and white. I primary tactic suggestion and that was it. Very disappointed
Quick service and accurate description. Did what he said.

Alan Hannah has an effective and simple writing style in describing the catching of big Irish pike on the fly. His method for catching these 'ultimate predators' is not unique. Fly fisherman have used fast sinking lines and booby flies to catch big trout since the seventies, and his fly designs are similar to others already in use in the USA and Canada. However it is the combination of the 'method' and the 'fly' that makes Alan Hannah's style so deadly. For newcomers to the sport of pike fishing I would also recommend the reading of more general literature on the subject, for whilst this little book covers the methodology and equipment required to catch pike on the fly, it assumes that the reader has an awareness of the pike's habitats, feeding habits and the effect of weather and seasonal changes. Altogether a first class read if you already fly fish for other species or catch pike with plugs and spoons. Oh-and if you were wondering, yes I have caught pike using Alan Hanna's methods and fly designs.
